Thoughts on abortion

-

Dear editor:

Response to Mr. Lindholm (quoted):

“Abortion should not be a political issue.” Since “politics” is “the governance of community,” which has everything to do with ethics and morality (with “right” and “wrong”), it must be a political issue.

“There is no mention of abortion in the Bible, no judgment on abortion.” “And (Pharaoh) said, ‘When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools, if it is a son, then ye shall kill him; and if a daughter, then she shall live.’ And the midwives feared God, and didn’t do as the king of Egypt commanded them; and saved the men children alive” (Exodus 1:16-17). This at-birth abortion is indeed a mention, and with a judgment (read on).

“It is wrong when individuals assume what God is thinking.” I agree!

“Abortion is one of the safest procedures done.” Physically, perhaps (except for the baby). Psychologically?

“(The debates) should be about the lives and health of women.” The considerations should be about all involved (including a deity, if one exists; the sperm donor; the little one).

“To be honest, it’s personal.” To be candid, it’s moral. “It’s not about embryos … ” No? “It’s not about assumptions about God’s thoughts.” True. It’s about the image of God. It’s about loving the image of God (one’s neighbor).

“America is unique because we have a constitutional guarantee granting us the right to privacy.” If the Bible is Truth, “Nothing is secret that shall not be made manifest; neither anything hid that shall not be known and come abroad” (Luke 8:17).

“To a great extent, the abortion issue has not been thought through by many in the pro-life movement.” I agree!

“This is a painful issue needing thoughtful decisions and compassion for mothers and babies.” I agree!

“Every child born ought to have parents who want them and are capable of caring for them affectionately, emotionally and financially.” So, if the parents prove deficient, the children should be killed?

The deity of the Bible is pro-abortion in some cases: “When Yehovah thy Gods shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and hath cast out many races before thee: the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou, and when Yehovah thy Gods shall deliver them before thee, thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them! Thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor show mercy unto them” (Deuteronomy 7:1-2). That included every child and every baby in the womb.

The deity of the Bible considers a fetus a race and people: “Yehovah said unto her, ‘Two races are in thy womb, and two manner of peoples shall be separated from thy internals’” (Genesis 25:23).

The “fight” is deity versus deity. One deity has teachings in one way; others have opposing teachings. The real deity alone will judge. Defending one’s deity proves “it” impotent. James Wilson
