Helping military families overseas

-

The Loyal Ladies Extension Homemaker Club has collected coupons for the past two years for military bases overseas: Iwakuni Marine Base in Japan and RAF Lakenheath in the United Kingdom. The club has mailed more than $295,000 in coupon value between December 2012 and now.

Any organization can do this, it is a patriotic charity. Members are supporting the service person and their family, as well as retired veterans, by sending coupons that are not used, and all of the extra ones that can be found. Military service families appreciate the assistance. Commissaries and exchange stores overseas accept coupons that are expired for six months. It is best to send manufacturer’s coupons that are no more than four months expired, as the coupons will have to be sorted by the volunteers at the bases.

Currently, there are 24 overseas bases that are asking for coupons. The following comments were received from the RAF Lakenheath Airman and Family Readiness Center: “Thank you for your continued generosity in sending us coupons. These coupons make a significant financial difference in the lives of our airmen and their families. Not only do your coupons help alleviate the

COUPONS FOR MILITARY MEMBERS: costs of grocery, pet, baby and household items, but it is a great morale booster to our families, as they see how much their fellow Americans think of them while they are away.”
