The story of a new garden at Garvan Woodland Gardens

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — The Men’s Village Garden Club will hear “The Story of a New Garden” as presented by Kathy and Al Edmonson at the 8: 30 a. m. Wednesday at Village United Methodist Church, 200 Carmona Road, Hot Springs Village.

The public is encouraged to attend this free presentati­on. The meeting starts with coffee, snacks and conversa- tion followed by the presentati­on at 9 a. m.

The slide presentati­on focuses on the recently completed Southern Inspiratio­n Garden at Garvan Woodland Gardens. Numerous volunteer Garland and Saline county organizati­ons participat­ed in the planning, funding, design, constructi­on and planting of this garden that will be opened officially by Garvan Woodland Gardens next spring.

Hot Springs Village has gained much from the contributi­ons of the Edmonsons, retired landscape architects, through many projects in Hot Springs Village with the Village Pines Garden Club and the Men’s Village Garden Club respective­ly. Al Edmonson, with a degrees from Michigan State University, was employed by the city of Akron, in private practice and by the University of Illinois as assistant vice president for capital programs at all five campuses. He has won national, state and city design and planning awards for his work. Kathy Edmonson, after completing her MS in Landscape Architectu­re, taught at the University of Illinois and operated her own business. She became a Master Gardner in Illinois.

Men’s Village Garden Club is a nonprofit educationa­l group organized to promote gardening interests and civic beautifica­tion.

The group meets the first Wednesday of each month and conducts village and other projects to improve the beauty of the surroundin­gs. For questions concerning the the MVGC, call President Craig Blackburn, 915- 8520.
