is currently a business consultant working with private and public business operators in the Hot Springs area advising them on locations, and operations, using her commercial real estate background.

She was born and finished high school in Siloam Springs and attended the University of Tulsa, where she majored in Industrial Psychology and graduated in 1957. She continues college education and advanced Real Estate education until now.

Helen is married and has four children — Sarah, John Mark, Scott and Michael — and 11 grandchild­ren.

Helen currently volunteers in many organizati­ons, including Habitat for Humanity, Hot Springs Parks Board of Directors, R.E.G.A.R.D., YMCA Board of Directors, Hot Springs Music Festival (board of directors), Kappa Kappa Gamma fraternity, Arkansas Women’s Leadership Foundation, Catholic Church of St. John the Baptist, Louts Book Club, and Hot Springs National Park Rotary.

Helen was the first woman to serve as chairman of The Greater Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce, and was elected Hot Springs mayor in 1992 and served two terms. She was named Woman of the Year three different times.

Marriage to my husband, John Selig.

I moved from Seattle, Wash., to Hot Springs in 1983, and started the Selig Commercial Real Estate company, the only company which specialize­d in commercial real estate at that time. Reception by the business community happened promptly, and because Hot Springs is a national park, there are opportunit­ies to know and work with people from all around the world. Bill Clinton was in office when I was mayor, and he opened many doors for communicat­ion and action between the state, county and city. I encouraged constructi­on of the Garland County Library, as well as the new police station, fire station and convention center when I was mayor, and helped relocate several large companies to the area, such as Xerox. During my term in office, Hot Springs was selected from all the cities in Arkansas to be the home of the Arkansas School for Mathematic­s, Sciences, and the Arts.
