The Fine Arts Center of Hot Springs presented awards at The Finalist Exhibition of the Fourth Annual Hot Springs Photography Competition on Oct. 2 during Gallery Walk.

The juror, Robert Farmer, selected 33 finalists to display at the art center from 68 submitted artworks, then the judge, Robert Dion, selected four artworks to receive cash prizes.

Farmer is the owner of Little Rock Photo and is a freelance photographer who specializes in portraits, weddings and natural landscapes. He began his career in Germany shooting architectural photos and landscapes.

Dion is the founder and director of the Hot Springs Photography Competition and is a studio, fine art and event photographer. He owns and operates Starline Photographic Studios in Hot Springs.

The finalist artists included George Burroughs, Kai Coggin, Michael Fleischhacker, Geary Hufstedler, Susan Koonce, Nancy McDonald Uggla, Sayeed Mehmood, Earl Mulley, Matthew Parks, Robin Phelps, Shirley Pohlman, Sharon Prislipsky, Betti Rippentrop- Pridmore, Minnette Santarcangeio, Patricia Trulock, Mark Turner, Jon Wisniewski and John Zubro.

Three Special Merit awards and $ 175 each were presented to Kai Coggin, Betti RippentropPridmore, and Jon Wisniewski.

Dion said in a news release that Coggin captured human interest in a spontaneous moment in her monochrome photograph “Joyride,” shot at a farmers market in Tarlec, Philippines. “Yesteryear,” a silver gelatin lithograph by Rippentrop- Pridmore, was awarded because of her expert skill in using traditional photography methods depicting a historic bridge. The artistic use of light, color and composition was the deciding factor in selecting Jon Wisniewski’s “Fall At Flatside Pinnacle.”

The Ohio Club Best of Show and $ 250 was awarded to Hot Springs Village photographer Sharon Prislipsky for her photograph “Ravenel After Dark.” Dion stated, “This photograph shows her exceptional and artistic use of camera technique, beautiful composition, and exposure of the subject at dusk.”

The exhibit is open through Nov 28. Gallery hours are 10: 30 a. m. to 5 p. m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and until 9 p. m. on the first and third each month.
