A Royal man was arrested early Tuesday after allegedly hiding in his estranged girlfriend’s closet and injuring her during a confrontation.

Joseph Christopher Guillory, 21, was taken into custody shortly after 8 a.m. and charged with third-degree domestic battery, a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail. He was still being held without bond Wednesday and had a hold on him by East Baton Rouge, La., authorities. He is set to appear Nov. 30 in Garland County District Court.

According to reports, around 7:30 a.m. Garland County sheriff’s Deputy Joey Pate was dispatched to a residence in the 400 block of Sunshine Village Square regarding a domestic disturbance and upon arrival was met by a male witness, 68, on the front porch.

The witness and the victim, 20, both stated that Guillory, who was the live-in boyfriend of the victim until they separated a few weeks ago, had come to the residence uninvited and had been hiding in her bedroom closet.

He came out of the closet and the two of them began arguing. The witness states he saw Guillory strike the victim on her right side near her ribs, causing an injury. Then Guillory ran out of the residence and into the nearby woods.

The victim was transported by LifeNet to CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs for treatment, but Pate was able to get a description of Guillory and what he was wearing from her and the witness.

He began searching the area and about 20 minutes later located the suspect walking on Sunshine Road near its intersection with Timber Lake Road and took him into custody without incident.
