Womack leads Fountain Lake past Centerpoin­t

ROSBORO — Bailey Womack led a balanced Fountain Lake scoring attack with 13 points as the Lady Cobras, in their season opener, defeated Centerpoin­t 42-32 Tuesday night.

Emily Johnson and Pearl Lee each added 11 for Fountain Lake, expanding a 15-11 halftime lead to 28-17.

In the boys nightcap, the two sides went back-and-forth before Centerpoin­t prevailed 56-50. The Knights led 12-6 after the first quarter before Fountain Lake (0-2) cut the deficit to 2422 by halftime, Centerpoin­t up 36-33 after three quarters.

Tate McKellar led Fountain Lake with 20 points, Clayton Bryant adding 13. Tanner Brunt paced Centerpoin­t with a gamehigh 21 points, Parker Sutton chipping in with 10.

The Cobras play Cutter Morning Star tonight for their home opener.

Jessievill­e-Bauxite

BAUXITE — Jessievill­e controlled the middle quarters before Bauxite bookended with strong starts and finishes, but the Lady Lions triumphed 64-56 in their season opener, a one-night effort Tuesday in the Bauxite Classic at Dawson Gymnasium.

The Lady Miners (1-1) led 16-14 after the first quarter, but Jessievill­e surged ahead 35-29 by halftime. The Lady Lions, coming off a Class 3A semifinal appearance, went up 45-34 after three quarters, but Bauxite hit three treys in a 22-point final quarter.

Kellie Lampo led Jessievill­e with 28 points and 15 rebounds. Madison Hair added 23 points and eight boards, and Ashley Brinkley 10 points.

The Lady Lions start the fifth annual Hot Springs Village Evening Lions Club Tipoff Classic by taking on Cossatot River at 11 a.m. Saturday at Jessievill­e Sports Arena. The Jessievill­e boys then begin their season against Cossatot followed by Fountain Lake’s girls against Lake Hamilton junior varsity and Fountain Lake’s boys against Riverview.

HS games postponed

Hot Springs’ girls and boys basketball games Tuesday at Jacksonvil­le were postponed after Hot Springs classes dismissed because of a power outage. Trojan coach Rodney Echols Jr. said Wednesday a make-up date was being discussed.

The 3-0 Lady Trojans, who won last week’s tournament at Pine Bluff with victories over Dumas, Pine Bluff and Lake Hamilton, and Trojans (1-0) play Lake Hamilton Monday in their only home games before January. The boys opened Saturday with an overtime win over Springdale Har-Ber.

The Trojans play Dec. 1012 in a tournament at Fayettevil­le. The Lady Trojans play Dec. 14 at Mena.
