Tenant allegedly shoots at her landlords
A tenant was arrested Wednesday afternoon after allegedly firing five rounds at her landlords, Hot Springs police said Thursday.
Cecily Ann Williams, 26, of Arkadelphia, was taken into custody shortly after 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Central Avenue and Court Street and charged with felony counts of unlawful discharge of a firearm from a vehicle, punishable by up to 10 years in prison, and aggravated assault and theft by receiving, both punishable by up to six years.
Williams remained in custody Thursday in lieu of $10,000 bond and is set to appear Dec. 1 in Garland County District Court.
According to the affidavit, Linda and Brad Kershaw, Williams’ landlords, arrived at her Greenway Street apartment to perform maintenance work. Williams had requested that her rental deposit be refunded, and was informed it would be mailed to her.
She reportedly became upset and started attacking both landlords, Brad Kershaw stated. The struggle ended and Williams left the apartment in her red Chevrolet Cavalier.
After driving around the block, Williams allegedly pulled back into the driveway, pointed a handgun at Brad Kershaw and said, “What do you think about this?”
Brad Kershaw put his hands up and started running as Williams reportedly fired five times. Linda Kershaw stated she did not see Williams fire the gun, but did hear the shots. Four .380 shell casings were located on the scene.
Hot Springs police Detective May stopped the Cavalier at the intersection of Central and Court, and Williams and a male passenger were detained. The passenger told May that the firearm was still in the vehicle, and also stated that he was with Williams during the altercation between her and the landlords and witnessed the shooting.
Officers searched the vehicle and located two firearms behind the driver’s seat, including the .380 allegedly used during the incident and a 9 mm. The .380 was reported stolen on Oct. 26 to the Garland County Sheriff’s Department.
