Son allegedly assaulted with 2x4 and iron bar by father
A Hot Springs man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly assaulting his son with a two-by-four and an iron bar during a dispute over gas money.
Scott Edmund Ohanian, 46, who lists a Convention Boulevard address, was taken into custody around 4 p.m. and was charged with second-degree domestic battery, a felony punishable up to six years in prison. He remained in custody Thursday in lieu of zero bond and is set to appear Nov. 30 in Garland County District Court.
According to the affidavit, Garland County sheriff’s Deputy Ashley Collier responded to a domestic disturbance at 310 S. Danna Drive, where she made contact with Ohanian’s 15-yearold son and the child’s mother.
Collier saw wounds on the boy’s right leg and left forearm inflicted by a two-by-four and an iron bar. The son stated he asked his father for gas money and was then assaulted by him. LifeNet transported the son to CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs. Collier searched the premises, but did not locate the weapons.
Ohanian had fled the scene before Collier’s arrival, but returned to the South Danna Drive residence later that afternoon and was taken into custody.
• A Texas man was arrested on multiple felony counts of drug possession early Thursday after a search of his vehicle during a traffic stop.
Jason Lee Heefner, 38, of Dallas, was taken into custody shortly after 1 a.m. at the intersection of Central Avenue and Lakeland Drive. He was charged with a felony count of possession of a controlled substance, punishable up to 10 years in prison, six counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, each punishable up to six years, and a misdemeanor count of possession of a controlled substance, punishable up to one year in jail.
He remained in custody Thursday in lieu of $19,500 bond and is set to appear Nov. 30 in district court.
According to the affidavit, a Hot Springs Police Department dispatcher reported a reckless vehicle, which GCSD Cpl. Clayton Green located parked at the Exxon Station at the intersection of Central Avenue and Higdon Ferry Road. The vehicle left the gas station at a high speed and failed to maintain his lane. Cpl. Josh Cannon assisted Green in a traffic stop at the intersection of Lakeland Drive and Central Avenue of the vehicle, a green Mazda Protege.
Heefner, the driver, acted nervous and fidgeted with something beside him, the report said. An open pill bottle and a syringe in a black case were located in a cup holder and passenger seat. He was requested to step out of the vehicle and was detained by Green. Heefner stated there were no other illegal items in the vehicle when Cannon began a search.
Green and Cannon found a brown box concealed under the passenger floorboard containing two needles, two spoons, and a hotel key all covered in 0.5 grams of what later field tested positive for heroin. Heefner was placed under custody.
During a further search, officers located a seven-day pill container with used Q-tips covered in heroin residue, a white container containing three 2 mg of Xanax, six 15 mg of mirtazapine, and seven unidentifiable pills.
