The Sentinel-Record

‘Thanks’ for supporting vets

-

Dear editor:

It takes a lot of work to get the memorial ready for our tribute to our veterans. For several months, our committee and volunteers have worked to prepare the site. We have been told by numerous visitors and locals who have visited other memorials that we have one of the finest.

We hope to thank everyone who helped on the Nov. 11 program (before and after) Veterans Day Service: music by the Fun City Barbershoppers, Miss Sharon Turrentine and Mr. Ross Rumore on the bugle, our speaker, Mr. Larry Brown, the Honor Guard of the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars), Pastor Shawn Bernard of Crossgate Church, members of the VVO (Vietnam Veterans Organization), members of A.B.A.T.E. (Arkansas Bikers Aiming Toward Education), DAV (Disabled Veterans of America), members of the Veterans Parade Committee, Wheeler Printing, Tom Daniel of Spa Fireworks, The Sentinel-Record, Mr. Bill Barnes of Mountain Harbor Resort, Judge David Switzer, Miss Pam Hill and staff for the use of her catering warehouse, the city of Hot Springs and the Hot Springs Civitan Club.

A special thanks to the elected officials and the community who took the time to come out in the rain to honor our veterans and the numerous businesses in the community offering free lunch, discounts or other items to our vets, including a generous donation from the Kroger family and manager Billy Steele on Airport Road to our memorial to support all veterans.

To learn more about us and to purchase a brick or a paver to honor a loved one, contact our secretary, Mr. Dick Holden (627-8756) or treasurer, Mr. Fred Kelsay (626-0921) or visit our website: http://www. gcvets.com.
