UA women fall despite Jackson’s milestone

BROOKINGS, S.D. — Three double-figure scorers couldn’t keep Arkansas’ women from a 76-69 road loss to South Dakota State here Wednesday at Frost Arena.

Jessica Jackson became the 27th player in program history to record 1,000 points and the second-fastest behind Bettye Fiscus, who reached the milestone as a sophomore. The Jacksonvil­le junior scored her 1,000th point on a two-point basket with 4:29 left in the first period. She finished with a season-high 24 points and 9 rebounds, just missing her third double-double of the year, and also had three blocks.

Freshman Jordan Danberry totaled 14 points and four rebounds while junior Kelsey Brooks had two three-point baskets among 12 points for the Razorbacks.

Macy Miller scored 31 points for South Dakota State (2-0), hitting 11 of 19 floor shots and eight of nine free throws. Clarissa Oliver had a game-high 10 rebounds and joined Ellie Thompson in double-figure scoring with 11 each. SDS led 39-30 at halftime and 63-47 after three quarters, withstandi­ng Arkansas’ 22-point fourth period.

South Dakota State completed a home-and-home sweep of Arkansas, winning at Walton Arena last season. Arkansas (21) is home Monday against Tulsa in a 7 p.m. start at Walton Arena, the Razorbacks winning the last five meetings (64-53 last year) in a series they lead 19-2.

LSU-UALR women

LITTLE ROCK —LSU outscored Arkansas-Little Rock 2311 in the fourth quarter, erasing the Trojans’ 10-point advantage, and won 57-51 here Wednesday at Jack Stephens Center.

LSU scored 13 points off nine UALR turnovers in the fourth quarter, going up 54-48 on an 8-0 run. The Trojans’ Raeyana DeGray missed an open three-pointer that would have tied it, and LSU put the game away at the line.

Shanity Jones scored 13 points and Monique Townson a career-high 12 for UALR (0-2). Sharde’ Collins added 11, hitting all three shots from three-point range. LSU (2-1), going on a 20-6 run in the fourth quarter, was led by Jenna Deemer’s 19 points on 6-of-9 shooting behind the arc.

UALR goes to Tulsa for a 7 p.m. game Tuesday.
