Library to host book swap
Garland County Library will host a book swap at 12:30 p.m. Nov. 29. Participants are welcome to talk about books and swap their favorites with others. This is the second time the library has offered this program to patrons.
“Everyone loved the book swap last time we hosted it,” said Karen Covey, circulation supervisor. “The room was buzzing with conversation about everyone’s favorite books and discussions of literature-related topics.”
Books were placed on a table and the group discussed what they loved about each book. “It is always a thrill to see people excited about reading and talking with others that enjoy it as well,” Covey said. “The next meeting will offer the same atmosphere and is sure to excite any true reader of books.”
The swap is a free event and does not require registration, but the number of books each patron brings is limited to 10.
The library also offers book clubs for the book lover, including the Sleuthers Mystery Book Club, which meets at 10 a.m. on the third Saturday of each month to discuss mystery and thriller books. “This is a book club for the sleuther in all of us,” said a book club leader. “We read all types of mystery books, from classics to the contemporary.” The club’s next meeting is on Jan. 16 to discuss “The Beekeeper’s Apprentice,” by Laurie R. King.
The Interestings Book Club meets at 6 p.m. on the last Tuesday of each month to discuss different genres of books, ranging from fiction to memoirs. “We read several kinds of genres and really anything we find interesting,” said Cori Williams, book club leader. “Many of the members say they participate in the book club because it helps them read books they normally would not read in their free time.” The club will discuss “A Prayer for Owen Meany” by John Irving at 6 p.m. Dec. 29.
Registration is required to attend book clubs.
