A local man was taken into custody Thursday after allegedly sexually assaulting a minor.

Quentin Wayne Knowles, 22, who lists a Crabtree Road address, was taken into custody shortly after 7 p.m. in the 3500 block of Albert Pike Road and charged with fourth-degree sexual assault, a felony punishable up to six years in prison.

He remained in custody Friday in lieu of $10,000 bond and is set to appear Nov. 30 in Garland County District Court.

According to the affidavit, the victim’s stepmother filed a sexual abuse report on Nov. 1 with the Garland County Sheriff’s Department. She reported a relationship between Knowles and a 15-year-old female, which she became aware of after reading text messages on the girl’s phone. The cellphone is being forensically examined to retrieve evidence.

Knowles was allegedly “married” to the girl’s cousin, although no mar- riage license was legally obtained. The girl was interviewed at Cooper-Anthony Mercy Child Advocacy Center where she confirmed that she and Knowles were in a relationship. She stated that he believed in polygamy and wanted her as his second wife.

She also stated that they had engaged in consensual sexual intercourse three times between August and mid-October. Knowles allegedly knew of her age and had been flirting and trying to touch her for two years.

The stepmother said she informed Knowles she was aware of their relationship and he tried to explain that the relationship with the 15-year-old was “in the name of love.” Knowles’ wife spoke with the stepmother and reportedly admitted she knew about her husband’s sexual relations with the girl.

Knowles and his wife initially agreed to be interviewed by sheriff’s investigators, but later refused to keep the appointment so a warrant was issued for his arrest.
