Sarah E. Fowler, 40
Resource development director at United Way of Garland County
Who is Sarah Fowler?
I was born and raised in Fort Smith, but spent a lot of time when I was growing up visiting my grandmother on Lake Ouachita, who relocated there in the late 60s with my grandfather where he and Bill Norman had a guide service. I graduated in 2000 with an associate degree in gerontology from University of Arkansas Fort Smith (formerly Westark College) and a bachelor’s degree in professional studies in 2011 from Arkansas Tech University. My husband, Donald Fowler, and I have two daughters, Elizabeth, 21, and Alexandra, 20, and a four-legged daughter named Zoey who keeps us from being empty nesters!
Prior to moving to our lake home full time to work for the United Way of Garland County, I worked for the Alzheimer’s Association and United Way of Fort Smith Area. I am currently involved in the Ouachita Artists, Red Coat with The Greater Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce, Oaklawn Rotary Club, I am a member of the Downtown Merchant’s Association (through UW), Community Coffee, Project HOPE, Southwest Arkansas Partnership Coalition, and the Human Trafficking Task Force of Garland County.
What one experience in your life really defined you?
Being a caregiver for my dad as he struggled with renal disease and being blessed to be with him when he transitioned from this life. It was a life experience so special and meaningful that I will never forget it!
What do you love about Hot Springs?
I love the history that surrounds Hot Springs, its beautiful landscapes, but more importantly the wonderful individuals who live and work here that make this a great community!
What do you enjoy doing for fun and relaxation?
To relax and have fun I love to cook, bake, boat, read, and spend time with family and friends.
Tell us something few people know about you.
I love to crochet and quilt!
Where do you see Hot Springs five years from now?
In the next five years I see the Hot Springs downtown area continuing to grow and prosper, I see the nonprofit coalitions continue to bring the emerging needs to the forefront of the community, and public transportation will serve the needs of the working community.
