LH students questioned about video on Snapchat
PEARCY — Two Lake Hamilton Junior High School students could face misdemeanor charges after sending an explicit video of another student to each other over Snapchat.
According to a Garland County Sheriff’s Department incident report, Bryan Cook, the assistant principal at the junior high, received information concerning a video of a 14-year-old female’s privates circulating over Snapchat, a social media app. The video allegedly was of the female while she was using the restroom at school.
A 15-year-old female suspect allegedly admitted to taking the video, but stated she was not the one who posted it to a 15-year-old male suspect’s Snapchat account. It was determined the video was sent from the female suspect’s phone to the male’s account as an attachment.
The male said he received the video through a Snapchat conversation with the female suspect, but denied asking for it or sending it to any other accounts. He said he could not delete the video unless he deleted the female suspect from his “friend’s list.”
The female suspect stated she took the video with one of the victim’s electronic devices. The victim noted she did not authorize or know the female suspect was videoing her.
The two suspects could be charged with possession of sexually explicit digital material, a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail.
