HSV triathlon calls for registrants; volunteers needed

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — Registration is now open for the upcoming Tri the Village Sprint Triathlon, and volunteers are needed to ensure the event’s success.

Presented by Lefler Dental, this USAT sanctioned event is scheduled for June 11 in locations around Hot Springs Village. Included will be a 500-yard swim, a 13.5-mile cycle course, and a 3.5-mile run.

Tri the Village is rated as one of the best triathlons in Arkansas, attracting participants from across the county. Last year, there were more than 180 athletes, and some 200 are expected in 2016.

The event is open to everyone, both residents and nonresidents of HSV.

Registration and management of the event is being handled by DLT Event Management of Arkadelphia, with support from and in benefit of Teen Challenge of Arkansas.

Athletes may register online by visiting http://www.DLTevents.com, then clicking on “On-Road,” and “Triathlons.”

Participants may register as individuals, or as part of a relay team. Relay teams are two or three athletes who work together to complete all three sections of the triathlon. All athletes must have a USAT annual membership, or purchase a one-day membership when registering.

Awards for a variety of categories will be given, including Overall Male/Female, Masters Male/Female, Grand Masters, Relay Teams, and Physically Challenged.

Judy Johnson, a licensed massage therapist with Natural Massage by Judy, has volunteered to give complimentary sports massages to participating athletes at the end of the triathlon. This will be a free five-minute massage. Athletes can sign up by visiting her table after finishing the race.

For volunteers, there are about 15 positions still open, mainly in the cycling and food portions of the race.
