Sherrod B. Thompson Jr., 76, of Hot Springs, passed away on July 26, 2016, at his home surrounded by family.

He was born March 14, 1940, in Russellvil­le, to Sherrod B. Thompson Sr. and Melvena White Thompson.

Sherrod was a man of honor who loved God, his family and was a true American patriot.

Growing up in Pope County, Mr. Thompson and his twin brother roamed the woods and back roads of Arkansas. The family moved to Hot Springs in 1951, and he graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1958. The twins joined the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Forrestal from 1958 to 1960, and retired as Seabee chief builders. They remained in the Navy Reserves until 2000.

Sherrod returned to Hot Springs and married his high school sweetheart March 16, 1961. The couple raised their children and enjoyed an adventurou­s life journey. Sherrod was a determined creative force and entreprene­ur whose vision made his ventures successful.

Proceeded in death by his sister, Rose Marie Thompson, of Hot Springs.

He is survived by the love of his life, Judy (Livingston) Thompson; their two sons, Sherrod B. Thompson III (Elaine), of Royal, and his daughters, Shelby (Jack) Hollingswo­rth and Sybil (Matt) Smith; Fred B. Thompson III (Nadia), of New York City, N.Y., and his son, Jacob, his daughter, Anna; as well as two great-grandsons, Jack and Eli Hollingswo­rth.

He is also survived by his twin sisters, Shervena Grubbs and Rebena Graham, of Hot Springs; his twin brother, Fred B. Thompson II (Lynda), of San Marcos, Calif.; his sister-in-law, Linda Harris; many special nieces and nephews.

Sherrod was of the Baptist faith and a lifetime member of BPOE Elks Lodge No. 380.

He will be missed by a host of friends, especially the members of Goodtime Sam RV Club and the Razorback Road Hogs, who made life-after-retirement a fun adventure.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at Gross Funeral Home. Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 30, with Navy military honors.
