Bostwick to return ‘Rocky Horror’ tradition to HSDFF
Tony and Golden Globe Award-winning actor Barry Bostwick will take part in the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival to celebrate the film he is most often associated with, “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.”
In the early years of the HSDFF, wildly popular annual screenings of the cult classic topped off the documentary slate, according to a news release. The Central Theater, which hosted films at the very first festival in 1992, will see the “Rocky Horror” tradition return to its screen on Oct. 14.
Previously known more for his work on Broadway, including as the original Danny Zuko in “Grease,” Bostwick saw his life change forever when he was cast as Brad Majors for the 1975 film, the release said. While his career has spanned many roles in film and television, including that of the mayor of New York in “Spin City,” the cult status of “Rocky Horror” continues to keep him busy on the convention circuit.
The 25th anniversary celebration of HSDFF, presented by Deltic Timber Corp., will run Oct. 7-16 at the Arlington Resort Hotel & Spa. It will include more than 100 of films of the current festival circuit. Parties throughout the 10 days will showcase historic Hot Springs’ Central Avenue, its restaurants and venues.
Actor Ed Asner will host the screening of Sharon Baker’s “My Friend Ed,” on closing night, Oct. 15, a film documenting his life and career.
This year’s festival will again feature the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences-sponsored Women Behind the Lens series, featuring the work of diverse female documentarians. Deltic Timber will showcase a series of environmental films. The Spa City Sports Series, AARP Films for Grownups and Entergy-supported Being Human series will return, as will HSDFF Family Day, and numerous opportunities for students throughout the festival.
