Mountain Valley, J.B. Hunt help flood victims

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

LITTLE ROCK — The Mountain Valley Spring Water and J.B. Hunt Transport Inc. recently teamed up to donate more than 3,200 gallons of water to The Salvation Army’s disaster relief effort.

The Mountain Valley Spring Water donated 30 pallets of water and J.B. Hunt Transport Inc. carried the water to Baton Rouge, La., where the residents are still recovering from last month’s historic flooding. The water will be used to power The Salvation Army’s 52-foot field kitchen.

“We deploy the field kitchen when things get catastrophic and we need to distribute hundreds of meals quickly,” said Erin Campbell, Salvation Army’s

director of communications. “The Mountain Valley water has been extremely beneficial to us because we’ve been able to power our field kitchen with it, rather than ship water in to use.

“Because of the generosity of The Mountain Valley, The Salvation Army has been able to distribute over 180,000 meals to those affected by the Gulf Coast floods,” he said.

The field kitchen has two commercial-tilt skillets, a walk-in refrigerator, food preparation areas, convection ovens and service windows.

“Our hearts go out to our neighbors affected by the Louisiana flood,” said Stephan Williams, director of marketing at The Mountain Valley Spring. “We know our support will play a small role in the disaster relief efforts, but we are happy to provide any assistance, and very pleased that it helped generate so many thousands of meals to those in need. The tremendous organizing efforts and outreach of the Salvation Army in these types of crises are incredible.”
