Letters to the editor
Where credit is due
Dear editor:
In the early part of 1990s the Malco Theater closed.
I was co-owner of the former Herr-Chambliss Fine Arts, founded in 1988 located in the old Rosenthal Shoe Store at 718 Central Ave. I relinquished my interest in the business and building in 1996. The Malco Theater was located across the street and south of my building by one block.
The day I heard the Malco Theater was closing I turned to my former wife, Malinda Herr-Chambliss, and said “You know, if the arts community could find a way to rent, borrow or buy the old Malco Theater and all the existing equipment and furnishings, we could start a documentary film review for those who have no venue or place to show their work. Why don’t you talk to Lorraine about that and see how she feels about it.”
That, dear editor, was the spark that created The Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival.
Thank you, my former wife, Malinda Herr-Chambliss, for all your tireless, hard work during that particular time and for all your energy and commitment in establishing an arts community in Hot Springs, but mostly, in helping in the founding of The Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival some 25 years ago. If you don’t get credit from anyone else, you will get it from me. Jerry Chambliss Hot Springs
Days of Prayer ahead
Dear editor:
Save the dates. Sundays, Nov. 6 and 13, are the International Days of Prayer for the Persecuted Church. Pray for the children, women and men around the world facing adversity, persecution and death because of their faith in Jesus Christ.
Then take the next step. Pray for the persecutors. “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” (Matthew 5:44, the Holy Bible).
More information is at http://persecution.com or call The Voice of the Martyrs at 877-337-0302.
Do not stand silent. Pray for the persecuted. Pray for the persecutors. Joyce Denton
