Troy’s Christon commits to Louisiana Tech hoops

Hot Springs basketball player Exavian Christon verbally committed to Louisiana Tech Wednesday night. The senior guard made the announceme­nt on Twitter after naming the Bulldogs and Arkansas-Little Rock as his top two choices.

Christon averaged 15 points, five rebounds and three assists per game last season for the Trojans, helping lead the team to a 28-4 record and its third straight conference championsh­ip. Hot Springs advanced to the Class 5A semifinals, losing a heartbreak­er to eventual state champion Forrest City 70-69 in overtime.

In addition to Louisiana Tech and UALR, Christon held offers from Arkansas State, Austin Peay, Southern Mississipp­i and Alabama-Birmingham. Verbal commitment­s are non-binding and the early-signing period begins Nov. 9.

Varsity volleyball Lake Hamilton-F. Lake

PEARCY — Paige Hoover recorded 19 assists, two digs and two aces in Lake Hamilton’s 3-1 win over Fountain Lake Tuesday night at Wolf Arena.

Allison Trantham finished with 10 kills and four blocks while Destiny Raymo added 14 kills and one block for the Lady Wolves. Scores were 25-27, 2826, 25-19, 25-19.

Shahmarie Afkhami had eight digs, three kills and one ace as Lake Hamilton’s junior varsity won 25-22, 25-15.

Both teams resume conference play on the road today. Lake Hamilton (8-5, 5-1) travels to El Dorado and Fountain Lake (14-4, 7-0) is at Haskell Harmony Grove.

Lakeside-Hot Springs

Lakeside improved to 6-0 in conference matches and 15-2 overall with a 3-0 decision against Hot Springs here Tuesday.

Shelby Little had 20 assists, nine digs and three aces in the 25-7, 25-13, 25-13 match. Mady Rottinghau­s recorded 12 kills,

two digs and two solo blocks and Erica Hendrix finished with 15 digs, two assists and one kill.

The Lady Rams host Texarkana today while Hot Springs travels to Camden Fairview for a conference match.

Jessievill­e-Episcopal

LITTLE ROCK — Jessievill­e dropped Tuesday’s conference match at Episcopal Colllegiat­e despite 26 digs by Lady Lion Jaidyn Fortenberr­y.

Maddie Back had 13 digs, nine assists, one ace and one block while Cari Sibley added 10 digs and five kills in the loss. Scores were 2521, 25-22, 25-10.

Jessievill­e (6-9, 2-2) has a nonconfere­nce match at Arkadelphi­a today before resuming conference play against Haskell Harmony Grove here Tuesday.

Class 4A-7 girls’ golf

BISMARCK — Fountain Lake’s girls golf team advanced to the Class 4A state tournament with a second-place finish in District 7 here Tuesday at DeGray Lake State Park.

Fountain Lake junior Bianca Rector had an 18-score of 92, placing third behind Bauxite’s Sophia Canale (88) and Malvern’s Macy Purifoy (90). All three earned all-conference honors.

Malvern (329) and Fountain Lake advance to the state tournament Tuesday at Maumelle Country Club.

Junior volleyball

Lakeside’s ninth-grade volleyball team improved to 13-1 overall and 4-0 in conference play with Tuesday’s road win over Hot Springs.

McKaila Davis led with 12 service points (six aces) and Maddie Trusty added six (two aces) in the 25-10, 25-6 decision. Abby Mahoney and Georgia Gooch each had three kills and Trusty and Olivia Lawrence two each, Lawrence with five assists.

Lakeside’s ninth-grade team won 25-10, 25-7 and eighth-graders 25-10, 25-20 in conference matches Monday at Magnolia. Mahoney had 17 service points with six aces and Ainsley Rottinghau­s five points with three aces for the ninth-grade Lady Rams. Hope Adams had four kills, Trusty three kills and four assists and Lawrence five assists. With two kills each were Davis, Claire Monte and Molly Stineman.

Taylor Ramirez had 11 service points and Alexis Drake seven, each with two aces, for Lakeside’s eighth-graders agaisnt Magnolia. Lakeside’s eighth-grade team is 6-1 overall, 3-0 in conference.

Lakesside’s ninth-grade team reached the semifinals of Saturday’s Conway Invitation­al, falling 25-20, 29-27 to Fort Smith Ramsey. Caitlin Ward had six service points and four digs, Mahoney five kills and Lawrence four kills and three assists. Trusty added seven kills, four assists and four digs while MC Cowen chipped in eight digs and Stineman seven.

The Lady Rams defeated Russellvil­le 2517, 21-25, 15-4 in the Gold bracket after going undefeated in pool play against North Little Rock (25-12, 25-16), Mount St. Mary’s (25-18, 25-16) and Vilonia (25-16, 25-17).

Lakeside’s eighth-grade team lost to 25-11, 25-14 in the Gold bracket after facing Ashdown, Jessievill­e and Paris in pool play.
