Threat to our rights

-

Dear editor:

It seems that we hear quite often the perceived threat of our Second Amendment being attacked or even repealed. What about the threat to our First Amendment? There is a thin-skinned candidate for president who has stated on numerous occasions his opposition to our First Amendment rights. There is certainly a reason that freedom of speech was considered important enough to be the First Amendment. If this man wins the election, he will definitely attack our right to free speech, as he already has done as a candidate.

This same candidate constantly whines about things being rigged. Almost every time something appears to be going against him, it must be rigged. Perhaps he can start a new trend. If you lose a sporting event, an election or even a jury trial, you can claim the system is rigged. You can then become exonerated or have the results reversed. Apparently we should never be personally responsible for what happens if the results of our actions do not suit us. Think before you vote. Gary Vogt Hot Springs Village

Trying to make ‘sense’

Dear editor:

I’ve noticed that Mr. Mike Nunn writes letters in which he seems to be trying to bring us “to our senses.” The content of his letters, including attacks on people who think differently than he does, leads me to suggest that, henceforth, his written utter-ances be regarded to as “utter Nunn sense.”

Just saying …
