No. 10 Wisconsin outmuscles Indiana, holds on for 65-60 win

MADISON, Wis. — Ethan Happ scored 20 points, Nigel Hayes added 15 and 10 rebounds, and No. 10 Wisconsin outmuscled Indiana to hold on for a 65-60 win on Sunday.

Happ was 8 of 10 from the field to help the Badgers (203, 9-1 Big Ten) win their seventh straight game. Maryland’s loss to Purdue on Saturday allowed Wisconsin to take a one-game lead in the conference over the Terrapins.

The 6-foot-8 Hayes joined the 6-foot-10 Happ to give Indiana problems in the paint. But the Badgers were plagued by mistakes or missed foul shots after building a 12-point lead midway through the first half.

Indiana (15-9, 5-6) stayed within a couple possession­s of the lead for most of the rest of the way. Josh Newkirk’s two foul shots with 28.6 seconds left got Indiana within 60-57, but Wisconsin went 5 of 6 from the foul line from that point to seal the win.

No. 12 North Carolina 83, No. 20 Notre Dame 76

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Justin Jackson scored 16 points to help North Carolina beat Notre Dame in a game postponed a day and relocated from UNC’s campus due to a water shortage.

Isaiah Hicks added 14 points for the Tar Heels (21-4, 9-2 Atlantic Coast Conference), who shot 49 percent and dominated the glass while having six double-figure scorers.

V.J. Beachem scored 20 points for the Fighting Irish (17-7, 6-5), who lost for the fifth time in six games.

UNC led by 15 midway through the second half, only to see Notre Dame climb back to within 75-73 on Beachem’s 3-pointer from the corner with 3:47 left. But Joel Berry II answered with a jumper at the 3:33 mark to start an 8-0 run and turn away the comeback.

No. 15 Florida State 109, Clemson 61

TALLAHASSE­E, Fla. — Dwayne Bacon tied a career high with 29 points as Florida State rolled to a victory over Clemson.

The sophomore guard, who has scored in double figures in 34 straight games, was 10 of 14 from the field, including 6 of 9 on 3-pointers. He had 18 points in the first half as the Seminoles built a 51-25 lead at halftime.

It is the first time FSU (20-4, 8-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) has reached the century mark in an ACC game since a 111-109 loss in double overtime to Georgia Tech on Feb. 11, 1999. The 48-point margin also marks its biggest win in conference history, surpassing the 36-point victory over Virginia in 1994.

Braian Angola-Rodas added 12 points and Terance Mann 11 for the Seminoles, who were 17 of 30 on 3-pointers and had all 13 players get in the scoring column.

Avry Holmes led Clemson (13-9, 3-7) with 15 points and Marcquise Reed added 12.

Boston University 75, Lafayette 58

BOSTON — Eric Fanning scored nine of his 11 points in the second half including the first five of a 13-0 run after the break to start Boston University on its way to a 75-58 victory over Lafayette on Sunday.

Fanning made five free throws to open the half and the Terriers (13-11, 8-4) led the rest of the way, leading by as many as 20 with under four minutes remaining.

Eric Johnson, Will Goff and Max Mahoney all finished with 12 points for BU with Fanning adding nine rebounds and Foreman five assists.

The Terriers beat Lafayette 91-75 on Jan. 8 when they made a school-record 18 3-pointers. BU made 11 of 27 3-point tries Sunday with Goff and Johnson sinking four each.

Nick Lindner scored 13 points and Kyle Stout and Paulius Zalys 11 apiece for the Leopards (6-17, 2-10), who have lost nine in a row.

Iowa 81, Nebraska 70

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Jordan Bohannon scored 15 points, Tyler Cook added 13 and Iowa held on for an 81-70 win over Nebraska on Sunday.

Brady Ellingson scored 11 points and hit a late 3-pointer to help the Hawkeyes (14-10, 6-5 Big Ten) secure their third straight win and avenge a double-overtime loss at Nebraska last month. Bohannon hit four 3-pointers and has a freshman school-record 54 on the season.

Peter Jok, the Big Ten’s leading scorer, scored 12 points in his return to the lineup after missing Iowa’s last two games with back issues. Jok played 30 minutes and shot 2 of 7 from the field.

Jack McVeigh scored 16 points to lead Nebraska (1013, 4-7), which outrebound­ed Iowa but made only 3 of 19 3-pointers. Tai Webster had 14 points, six rebounds and six assists. The senior became the 28th player in Nebraska history to reach the 1,000-point mark.

Referee Tom Eades suffered an undisclose­d injury with 12 minutes left in the second half and did not return. The rest of the game was officiated by two referees.

Temple 83, South Florida 74

PHILADELPH­IA — Daniel Dingle made a career-high six 3-pointers, scored 22 points, and Temple defeated South Florida 83-74 on Sunday.

Shizz Alston Jr. and Ernest Aflakpui scored 14 points apiece for the Owls (13-11, 4-7 American), who shot 54 percent overall, 62 percent in the first half when they took a 46-23 lead by finishing on a 13-0 run.

The Owls made 12 of 23 from the arc as they won for the third time in four games after starting conference play 1-6.

Geno Thorpe had 25 points and Tulio Da Silva 18 for the Bulls (6-16, 0-11), who have lost 11 straight. The Bulls shot 52 percent but just 3 of 4 from the line to 15 of 19 for Temple.

The lead reached 27 early in the second half. The Bulls got within nine on a Troy Holston 3-pointer with under two minutes left but no closer with Troy Alston going 6 of 6 at the free-throw-line.
