Rams sweep tourney

MAGNOLIA — Lakeside took advantage of a big fifth inning to complete its sweep of the Magnolia spring-break tournament, defeating Malvern 5-3 Saturday afternoon in the championsh­ip game.

After giving up two runs in the top of the fifth, Remy Bilodeau conceeded the mound to Gage Golden, leaving Golden with runners on first and second and no outs. Golden struck out the next two batters before the next batter ground-out, leaving the Rams down 3-2.

Justin Scot led off the bottom of the inning with a single before he was knocked in by Race Tittle to tie the game.

After Malvern’s next three batters were retired in order, Ethan Bates singled to start the bottom of the sixth, advancing to third before an RBI double on the ground by Scott to put the Rams on top. Scott was then batted in by Jack Bornhoft for the 5-3 lead.

Malvern took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third, picking up an unearned run, but Lakeside responded with runs by Scott and Bornhoft for the 2-1 lead.

Golden earned the win for the Rams, pitching three innings with three strikeouts, no hits and no walks. Bilodeau pitched

four innings, allowing three runs on three hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

Malvern’s Brandon Scott picked up the loss with all six innings on the mound. He allowed five earned runs on 10 hits with one walk and four strikeouts.

Lakeside (9-4, 3-1 in 5A-South) hosts Texarkana Tuesday.
