Local artist to be featured at Little Rock’s ARTstravaganza
LITTLE ROCK — Hot Springs artist Carole Katchen will demonstrate her new style of pastel painting Saturday at ARTstravaganza in Little Rock. The event is a free, all-day presentation of new art materials and painting techniques at Art Outfitters, 917 W. Seventh St. Katchen will appear at 3 p.m.
In Katchen’s new art technique, she rips up and glues down pastel paper in an abstract design, then paints over it with pastels. The edges of the collage add an abstract, linear quality to the finished image. Her innovative work is being featured in the national magazine Pastel Journal later this year.
ARTstravaganza is an annual event where local artists are introduced to new art supplies and methods. Demonstrating artists will present a variety of painting, drawing and printmaking approaches including resin pour painting, wet burn encaustics, pin-striping, “blot to beautiful” ink painting and many more. The store will also present free samples and door prizes. Another feature is the Famous Artist Booth where guests can be photographed as their favorite painting.
Katchen has been a professional artist for more than 50 years. Her art has been featured in galleries and museums in Asia, South America and all over the United States. She also teaches painting in her studio at 620 W. Grand Ave.
