LH track teams claim 2 overall seconds

PEARCY — With several individual winners, Lake Hamilton finished second overall in both divisions of its invitation­al track meet Friday at Wolf Stadium.

Three-time Class 6A girls cross country champion Josie Carson won three middle- to long-distance races, clocking 2:23.61 at 800 meters, 5:15.44 at 1,600 meters and 11:36.74 at 3,200 meters.

Also winning for the Lady Wolves were Jenny Peake in the high jump (5 feet) and Edie Murray leading a top-four team sweep in the pole vault (12-6). Madison Shinn, Farren Simon and Grace Cole finished behind Murray.

Haze Farmer, Knowledge Hood, William Burgess and Zach Kalas each won events for Lake Hamilton’s boys. Farmer went 15 feet, 8.25 inches in the pole vault — his spring best is 16.0.25 at the March 30 Lakeside Ram Relays — while Hood clocked 400 meters in 50.45 seconds. Burgess won the shot put with 51 feet, 4 inches and Kalas the discus with 141-6.

Lake Hamilton won the boys 4x800 relay with Skylar Davis, Mckree Martin, Colby Swecker and Cody Weldon clocking 8:06.15. The Wolves were second to Bryant in the 4x400 relay with Farmer, Hood, Hunter Tucker and Swecker at 3:29.01.

Hood finished third in the 200 to Cabot’s Conley Hillegas (22.78). Lake Hamilton’s Michael Harris cleared 15-0.25 for third place in the boys pole vault and teammate Matthew Mory 5-11 for third in the boys high jump.

The Wolves totaled 106.50 points, Bryant leading with 154.50 points. Sylvan Hills outpointed Lake Hamilton 138-123 for the girls title with Texarkana third at 111.

Three-time Class 3A boys cross country champion Noah Eskew, of Jessievill­e, timed in 4:24.00,

finished a close second to Maumelle’s Dylan Douglas (4:22.82) in the boys 1,600. Douglas also won the 3,200, Lake Hamilton placing third and fourth with Omar Ramos and Nick Davis.

Jessievill­e’s Brandann Johnson placed second in the boys triple jump and third in the long jump.

Multiple winners in the girls division besides Carson were Sylvan Hills’ Mia Heard in the long jump (17-7) and triple jump (36-1) and Vilonia’s Ally Swaim in the 100- and 300-meter hurdles (15.59 and 48.43).

Lake Hamilton is preparing for the Class 6A-South meet April 28 at Greenwood, later hosting the state 6A meet. Jessievill­e is host to the 3A-Region 4 meet April 25 and Prescott will host the Class 3A meet May 2. Other state-meet sites include Harrison (Class 5A) and Pocahontas (Class 4A). Russellvil­le is host to the Meet of Champions and Cabot to the state decathlon and heptathlon.

Junior tennis event scheduled at HSCC

Draws are forming for the Hot Springs Country Club junior state tennis championsh­ip Friday-Sunday.

Entry deadline is 1 p.m. Wednesday with fees of $56.40 for one event and $58 for two events.

The hard-court event features Level 3 singles and doubles for boys and girls and separate categories for ages 10 and under. The 10-and-under Green division is affiliated with the United States Tennis Associatio­n’s Youth Tennis Progressio­n program, for which more informatio­n is available online at http://www.arktennis.com/youth_progressio­n.

HSV police benefit from May golf event

Golfers are invited to participat­e in a fund-raising event for Hot Springs Village Police Department May 17 at the Ponce de Leon course.

The scramble golf tournament and barbecue dinner, both in their first year, are hosted by Hot Springs Village Citizens Police Academy Alumni Associatio­n. Entry fee is $90 per golfer with a May 10 deadline and registrati­on forms available online at www. hsvcpaaa.com.

Check-in May 17 is at 9:30 a.m. with an 11 a.m. shotgun start. Lunch will be provided by Mulligan’s and dinner, at 5 p.m., by Smokin’ In Style BBQ. Dinner tickets are $25, and current law enforcemen­t officers eat free.
