Rams, Wolves win conference games

CAMDEN — Scoring three runs in the first three innings, Camden Fairview got an early jump on Lakeside Tuesday night before the Rams’ bats came to life in a big way.

A six-run fifth carried Lakeside to an 8-3 victory and 3-0 record against the Cardinals this season.

Brady Prince had two RBI for the Rams while Ethan Bates, Zac Melugin and Spencer Vicentic each drove in one run. Jack Bornhoft had one single and one double in four at-bats.

Freshmen pitchers Gage Golden and Jake Turner combined to allow two runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and three walks in seven innings.

Vicentic surrendere­d one run on one hit with two walks and was pulled after facing three batters. Alex Chavez had two hits (a double included) and drove in a run. Niles Smith had a triple on a two-hit night and stole a base.

Jameson Milner suffered the loss, allowing six runs on five hits with five walks and six strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings pitched.

Now 14-6 overall and 7-3 in conference, Lakeside travels to

Pine Bluff today before hosting defending Class 5A champion Magnolia on Friday.

DE QUEEN — Lake Hamilton’s Zach Ross did a little bit of everything Tuesday night. The senior had a home run, drove in three runs and pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief to make the Wolves a 3-2 winner over De Queen.

Utah Aitken singled and doubled in two at-bats for the Wolves while Brayden Clark and Korey Wasson each scored one run.

Wasson started on the mound and scattered two unearned runs on four hits with five walks and 10 strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings.

De Queen led 2-1 before Lake Hamilton plated two runs in the seventh.

The Wolves (6-12-1, 4-4) host Sheridan today before resuming conference play against visiting Camden Fairview on Friday.
