Burglary at American Legion under investigation

- STEVEN MROSS

The Garland County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the burglary of the American Legion club late Tuesday involving two intruders who had their faces covered, Capt. Gary Ashcraft said Wednesday.

The two subjects, one wearing a motorcycle helmet and one wearing some type of white covering, possibly a pillow case, entered the club, located at 3237 Albert Pike Road, shortly after 9:30 p.m. and removed a bank bag with an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing the scene.

Ashcraft said a female employee was working at the club and saw the two subjects approaching the front of the building on the security camera so she ran out the back of the business.

“They’re (investigators) working on it this morning,” Ashcraft said, noting they have identified a possible person of interest in the case, but no arrests had been made as of Wednesday morning.

Anyone who may have seen anything or has information about possible suspects should contact investigators at 622-3690 or the department’s 24 hour, anonymous hotline at 622-3674.

• A Hot Springs Village woman was arrested late Tuesday after allegedly attacking her domestic partner during an argument at their residence.

Wood, 55, of 95 Murcia Way, was taken into custody shortly after 9:30 p.m. at her residence by

Hot Springs Village police and charged with third-degree domestic battery, a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail. Wood was still being held Wednesday on zero bond and is set to appear June 5 in Garland County District Court.

According to the affidavit, HSV police responded to the disturbance at the residence and upon arrival made contact with the male victim who was “covered in blood.” The victim stated his domestic partner, identified as Wood, had attacked him as he was attempting to leave the residence.

He said she had pushed him repeatedly, scratching his arms and causing him to bleed. He said he asked her to stop more than once but she chased him outside as he tried to get in his pickup to leave. He said she took his keys from him so he called 911 for help.

Wood reportedly admitted to pushing the victim repeatedly even after he asked her to stop. She said the altercation began as an argument, but escalated when the victim tried to leave. She said he was taking items that belonged to her and she didn’t want him to leave with them and he refused to give them to her.

Officers noted that based on the blood on the victim and outside the residence and the injuries he sustained and Wood’s statement admitting to the assault, they decided to arrest her on the battery charge.
