Eagles blast Bismarck at home, 27-6

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

Michael Kimpton and Jaydee Mace carried Cutter Morning Star to a 27-6 victory over previously undefeated Bismarck at Eagle Field Friday night.

“We played well,” said Eagle head coach T.C. Shamel, his team coming off an 8-7 loss to Mountain Pine. “We actually played a pretty good ballgame. Michael and Jaydee had great games for us.”

Kimpton hurt Bismarck on the ground and through the air, carrying 21 times for 135 yards and completing three of seven passes for 59 yards. Defensively, he had a 75-yard interception return to the Bismarck five.

Mace had two receptions for 52 yards.

Kimpton passed 25 yards to Mace for a first-quarter touchdown, Dakota Lipitre kicking it to 7-0. CMS took over after stopping Bismarck on fourth and eight at the Lions’ 30.

Padding the lead, Shamel said, “took a while. It was back and forth. We tried to turn the field over. We kept them down on their end of the field quite a bit. We kind of wore them down, I felt. Our offensive line did a great job. There in the end, they couldn’t stop us on the ground.

Kimpton ran for two second-half touchdowns, the fourth-quarter score set up on a fake punt that Mace ran for 27 yards. Mace scored again before Bismarck quarterback Dylan Clayton broke a long touchdown run.

Matthew Tims had two interceptions.

In conference openers this week, CMS (1-1) goes to Hector and Bismarck is home against Jessieville.
