Geology Club member recognized
The South Central Federation of Mineral Societies, in conjunction with the Hot Springs Geology Club, recognized Ray Lynch for 14 years of dedicated service as editor of the Hot Springs Bulletin and celebrates his 11th year as district vice president for SCFMS over the Arkansas territory.
The South Central Federation of Mineral Societies is a nonprofit organization consisting of member societies from the states of Louisiana, Texas and Arkansas, and one of seven regional federations belonging to the American Federation of Mineralogical Societies. The SCFMS promotes interest and education in lapidary arts, minerals, fossils and associated earth sciences, and assists in the formation of gem and mineral societies within the region, cooperating with similar federations in all regions of the United States.
The Hot Springs Geology Club has been an active member of the SCFMS and AFMS since 1976, and educates its members in geology, gem, mineral, rock, fossil collecting and all associated arts and sciences. During his tenure, Lynch has contributed to the longevity and 40-year success of the Hot Springs Geology Club as treasurer, editor and as a liaison between his territory and regional federation.
Club newsletters can do much more than relay important dates or club-specific information, they document and disseminate Hot Springs Geology Club’s knowledge and unique experiences for locals and visitors alike. Sharing the members’ methods and discoveries allows readers the opportunity to be educated by the “experts” in Arkansas and by club members actively exploring the area. Oral traditional can be lost over time, but where committed to writing, the information is preserved to inform and educate future generations.
“We commend Mr. Ray Lynch for his vital role in both organizations as he publishes his 10oth bulletin in October 2017. He has displayed continued persistence to bring new and interesting subject matter, photographs and a fresh spin on historic and current geological events in Arkansas. Mr. Lynch’s incredible bulletins and contributions by club members consistently place within the top entries of our annual regional competition, and we are proud to honor him for his noteworthy accomplishments and continued success,” stated the press release.
