Recital to benefit scholarship fund
Violinist Kiril Laskarov and pianist Mary Scott Goode will perform music by Johannes
Brahms at 3 p.m. Nov. 19 at St.
Luke’s Episcopal Church, 228
Spring St.
They will be joined by the
Hot Springs Music Festival Chorus, under the direction of Lynn
Payette, presenting a Brahms motet. Admission is free; donations will be accepted to benefit the Hot Springs Music Festival
Scholarship Fund. All donations are tax-deductible.
A reception will follow in the St. Luke’s Parish Hall. The venue is handicap accessible.
Laskarov is in his 19th season as Concertmaster of the
Arkansas Symphony Orchestra.
A native of Bulgaria, he received a bachelor of arts degree from the State Academy of Music in Sofia and master’s degree from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Laskarov has appeared as a soloist with the Arkansas Symphony, Las Vegas Philharmonic, Southern Illinois Symphony, Abilene Philharmonic in Texas, Symphony Irvine in California, and Texarkana Symphony in Texas, and also as a guest concertmaster with the Monroe Symphony in Louisiana and McCall Festival Orchestra in Idaho.
Goode is in frequent demand as both a soloist and an accompanist, a news release said. She is a professor of music at Texarkana College where she teaches piano and music appreciation, and accompanies the Texarkana Regional Chorale. She founded the TC Music Series and performs frequently on campus concerts. Goode is the principal keyboard player with the Texarkana Symphony Orchestra and has also been featured on Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue,” Grieg’s Piano Concerto and Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto.
Goode attended The Eastman School of Music and Florida State University where she received a master’s degree in Piano Performance. She has been on the music faculty or staff at The University of Arkansas, The University of Rhode Island, The University of Tampa and Hillsborough Community College, Tampa.
