Lady Rams turn back Fairview in tourney
The Lakeside junior Lady Rams successfully defended their home court with a 36-18 win over Camden Fairview Wednesday in the Lakeside tournament at Lakeside Athletic Complex.
Leading 9-8, the Lady Rams rode a 9-2 run in the second quarter to an 18-10 halftime lead. Camden Fairview rebounded with six points in the third, but Lakeside maintained a 25-16 advantage entering the final frame.
The Lady Rams outscored Camden Fairview 11-2 in the fourth quarter to set the final margin. Erika Bittinger scored a team-high 10 points for Lakeside, while Sheridan Cross finished with seven points and Maddy Davenport had five points.
Lakeside hosted Hot Springs in the tournament championship Thursday night.
* The Lakeside senior boys dropped to 0-7 on the season with a 70-49 loss to Subiaco Academy in the first round of the Russellville tournament Wednesday night. Patrick Davis paced the Rams with 15 points.
Jessieville-Magnet Cove
POYEN — Jarrett Davis led all scorers with 14 points as the Jessieville junior Lions improved to 3-1 with a 5122 win over Magnet Cove in the first round of the Poyen Invitational tournament on Wednesday.
Jessieville raced to a 15-4 lead at the end of the first quarter, stretching it to 30-9 at the half. With a 15-4 advantage in the third quarter, the Lions built a comortable 45-17 lead before coasting to victory in the fourth.
Ty Lafoon finished with 10 points for Jessieville, while Landen Daley added nine, Carson Hair had seven and Charlie Davis chipped in with six points.
“We came out ready to play and forced some early turnovers which led to easy baskets,” Jessieville coach Jared White said. “As a coach, you love to look up in the box score and see balanced scoring, and that’s exactly what we had tonight.”
Jessieville faced Ouachita in the semifinals Thursday night.
Fountain Lake-Centerpoint
POYEN — Centerpoint made quick work of the Fountain Lake junior Lady Cobras in the first round of the Poyen Invitational tournament Wednesday night.
Leading 7-3, the Lady Knights outscored Fountain Lake 13-0 in the second quarter before cruising to a 40-14 win. After Centerpoint built a 32-6 advantage in the third quarter, the Lady Cobras showed signs of life with eight points in the fourth to set the final margin.
Presley Hamric led Fountain Lake with five points and Jaylin Rhoades had four points.
The Lady Cobras (3-3) travel to Bismarck tonight.
