Johnson shines as Cobras down Gurdon

GURDON — Fountain Lake senior Parion Johnson led all scorers with 23 points as the Cobras downed Gurdon 49-38 at home Friday night.

Fountain Lake led 11-5 at the end of the first quarter and stretched it to 25-17 at the half. The Go-Devils pulled within 35-25 at the end of the third quarter, but were unable to close the gap down the stretch.

The Cobras outscored Gurdon 14-13 in the fourth quarter to set the final margin and secure the win. Ahman Johnson and Riley Hood each scored eight points for Fountain Lake.

Senior guard B.J. Brewer paced the Go-Devils with 12 points and sophomore forward Sam Smith chipped in with eight points.

Improving to 7-3 on the season, Fountain Lake hosts Cutter Morning Star Tuesday night at Bass Gymnasium.

* The junior Cobras fell behind 12-2 in the first quarter and never recovered. Gurdon held a comfortabl­e 25-9 lead at the half before coasting to a 39-29 win.

Michael Moore scored a team-high nine points for Fountain Lake in the loss. The junior Cobras (3-6) will face host Bigelow in the Perry County Classic on Dec. 27. Girls

Trailing 18-14 at the half, the Fountain Lake Lady Cobras took a 29-26 lead into the fourth quarter before Gurdon flipped the script with a sizzling finish.

Outscored 15-8 in the third quarter, the Lady Go-Devils edged Fountain Lake by the same margin in the fourth, pulling away for a 41-37 win.

Senior forward Isabelle Baker scored 11 points for the Lady Cobras, while senior guard Lyndsey Blees finished with 10 points.

Fountain Lake (4-6) will host Cutter Morning Star Tuesday night at Bass Gymnasium.

* The junior Lady Cobras made quick work of Gurdon, jumping to an 11-0 lead in the first quarter for a commanding 21-3 advantage at the half.

Fountain Lake added 14 points in the second half while surrenderi­ng just three points for a 35-6 win.

Karli Bryant led all scorers with 13 points for Fountain Lake, Presley Hamric and Bailey Helton each finishing with eight points.

The junior Lady Cobras improved to 5-4 on the season with the win.
