Hot Springs Jazz Society announces Mardi Gras Ball Queen and King
The Hot Springs Jazz Society has announced this year’s Mardi Gras Costume Ball & Contest Queen and King, Sunny Evans and Richard Stephens. The ball is set for 6-11 p.m. Feb. 10 at The Hotel Hot Springs & Spa.
Evans is an active supporter of the Hot Springs community and a longtime supporter of the Hot Springs Jazz Society. She contributes to the many cultural organizations of Hot Springs, is an active supporter of the University of Arkansas’ Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design at Garvan Woodland Gardens, and recently facilitated the creation of the Tree House project at Garvan Woodland Gardens with her late husband, Bob.
Stephens is a well known Hot Springs artist who is regarded as one of the top watercolor artists in the country. Best known for his landscape and architectural renderings, these days he spends much of his time traveling and teaching his skills to budding artists all around the country. Rumor has it he will be creating a special piece of art for the Mardi Gras silent auction, a news release said.
Tickets can be purchased online at http:// www.HSJazzSociety.org, by calling 627-2425, or by emailing HSJazzSociety@gmail.com. Tickets are $60 per person. Parties of 10 who reserve a table for $600 will receive preferred seating.
Proceeds support scholarships to attend the UAM Summer Jazz Camp and free concerts. The Hot Springs Jazz Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit volunteer organization dedicated to perpetuating, promoting and preserving jazz music, an original American art form. The Jazz Society is funded in part by the Arkansas Arts Council, Hot Springs Advertising and Promotion Commission, Morris Foundation, Hot Springs Community Foundation and Elisabeth Wagner Foundation, along with numerous other corporate and private sponsors.
