Della B. Burks Murphy Word, age 90, of Hot Springs, passed away Friday, May 25,

2018.

She was born July 17, 1927, to Belma Burks Sr. and Joanna Rabon Burks in Vienna, La. They preceded her in death, as well as her husbands, Eddie Lee Murphy Sr. and John Word; children, Anna Rose Wesson and Allen Ray Murphy; her siblings, George Burks, Ollie B. Owens, Belma Burks Jr., Peggy Joe Cotton, Rosa Honeycutt, Rita Taylor Carter.

Della was a member of St. Thomas Baptist Church, where she served as a Mother of the church. She had attended Eureka Baptist Church and Visitors Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church. She was also a member of the Eastern Star. She was a former employee of Mollie’s Restaurant and The Arlington Hotel.

She is survived by her children, Eddie L. Murphy Jr. (Linda), of Milwaukee, Wis., Dwayne Murphy and Lou Griffin, both of Hot Springs; one sister, Laura McDaniel, of San Ramon, Calif.; one brother, Elbert McGhee, of Hot Springs;

18 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2018, at Eureka Baptist Church, 721 Gaines St., with the Rev. Charles Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-6:30 p.m. Friday, June 1, 2018, at the funeral home.
