HSV takes two wins in Legion opener

HASKELL — Hot Springs Village took a 9-1 win over Benton Harmony Grove in its American Legion season opener Wednesday night in Haskell.

Hot Springs Village put up four runs in the top of the first inning to take a lead it did not relinquish for the rest of the night.

HSV added two more runs in the top of the second before securing the win in the fourth with three more runs.

Bryce Brownlee went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, a triple and one run, Conner Cheek was 1-for-3 with two runs and Daeton Bassett went 1-for-2 with one run.

Jake Turner gave up one run off two hits while striking out three in two innings on the mound. Bassett struck out two in two innings of relief.

Hot Springs Village will host Magnet Cove tonight in a double-header starting at 6 p.m.

Junior baseball

Hot Springs Village’s junior American Legion team took an 11-5 win at Benton Harmony Grove in its season opener Wednesday night in Haskell.

Benton Harmony Grove took a 1-0 lead after its leadoff batter scored in the bottom of the first inning.

Hot Springs Village recovered in the top of the second inning to score three runs, the first of three back-to-back three-run innings as the team cruised to a 9-1 lead after four innings.

BHG scored one run in the bottom of the fifth to pull within 9-2. HSV added one in the top of the sixth, but Benton Harmony Grove added two in the bottom of the inning to pull within 10-4.

Both teams added one run in the top of the seventh inning to set the final.

Race Tittle went 3-for-4 at the plate for Hot Springs Village with

two runs scored, Stephen Turner went 2-for-4 with a run and Adam Saveall scored three runs.

Tittle gave up one run off two hits in two innings on the mound. Montana Carden allowed two hits in two innings on the mound, and Dalton McClard gave up three runs off one hit, four walks and a hit batsman in two innings. Cade Jackson finished the game on the mound, giving up one run off one hit and a walk while striking out one.
