James W. Baber, 94, of Hot Springs, passed away on June

8, 2018.

He was born Jan. 20, 1924, in Broken Bow, Okla., to Bill and Elsie Baber.

James is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley; son, Hayes; sister, Imogene; and his parents.

He is survived by his children, Donna Flenniken (Thad), Mary Gail Vidrick (Bob); daughter-in-law, Kathy Baber; grandchild­ren, Tess Condley (Blake), Wes Flenniken and T.J. Baber; great-grandchild­ren, Samuel and Maggie Flenniken and Kai and Marley Condley; and brother, Douglas Baber (Barbara).

James served as Sergeant

B24 Gunnery Instructor/Army Air Corps during World War II. In Hot Springs, February 1944, he and Shirley were married. They had three children. In

1953, the family relocated to Arkadelphi­a when he began a career at Reynolds Metal. He and his family were charter members of St. Andrew Methodist Church, which he helped build. At retirement, they returned to their beloved Hot Springs and joined Piney Grove United Methodist, where he served as a trustee, was active in the men’s group and a member of the Rainbow Sunday School Class.

A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, June 18, at Piney Grove United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Piney Grove United Methodist Church.
