American Legion holds annual Luau Karaoke

The American Legion Post 13, 3237 Albert Pike, will observe its Third Annual Luau Karaoke Party from 6-11 p.m. Sunday. There will be door prizes, with a potluck food table and dancing, with hula skirts, and singing with Stephanie and Larry Martin leading. No cover charge. Come join in.

The public is welcome, ages 21-plus, to the weekly Wednesday night karaoke and special events like the luau. Nonmembers need to sign the register. Parking is at the rear of the building with three exits available. There are three pool tables and a new electronic dart board for extra amusement. Dart games free; pool, $1.

Come enjoy the decorations and fun, and get Hawaiian beauty bead leis.

SeatWeavers Guild gathering July 27-29 in HSV

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — The 11th Annual Gathering of The SeatWeavers’ Guild brings the craft of chair caning to the Coronado Community Center, 150 Ponderosa Way, Hot Springs Village, July 27-29. Chair caners from across the nation will participate in the conference.

On July 28, workshops and sessions are open to the public for a fee of $110, which includes catered lunch, dinner, snacks, beverages and annual membership in The SeatWeavers’ Guild. The conference runs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The noon to 3 p.m. July 29 SeatWeaving Roadshow is free and open to all ages. Attendees will see demonstrations by guild members showcasing the various methods and materials used in chair caning and seat weaving. Visitors are encouraged to step up to a chair and practice weaving themselves. Educational displays and special exhibits will be on site.

The SeatWeavers’ Guild is a nonprofit educational group organized to promote and perpetuate the age-old craft of chair seat weaving. Members are craftsmen, teachers and restoration artists with a deep desire to pass on the seat weaving trade.
