Cuatro Claviers to perform in Hot Springs Village

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — The Cuatro Claviers will perform at the Kirk in the Pines Sanctuary, 275 Asturias Drive, at 3 p.m. Aug. 12. They will offer a variety of music for piano and organ featuring selections from Bach to Sousa’s “The Stars and Stripes Forever.”

Ruth Clemens is organist at Christ of the Hills Methodist Church and has an educationa­l background in organ and piano. She has been accompanis­t for many Hot Springs Village musical groups including Cedar Mountain Singers, Village Strings and PEO Singers.

Martha Smither is a pianist along with having a business background in accounting, finance and economics. She is involved with Hot Springs Village Community Foundation, Hot Springs/Hot Springs Village Symphony Guild and is a founding member of Arkansas Learning Through the Arts, an organizati­on that brings cultural arts experience­s to over 5,000 Arkansas students.

Fran Stroud claims to be “piano bench buddies” with Clemens, with whom she has given numerous piano and organ duet concerts in Hot Springs Village. Stroud is the accompanis­t at Village United Methodist Church and choral director of the Hot Springs Village choral group Voices Rising. Her background in education hails from the University of Texas.

Donna Toney, organist/pianist at Presbyteri­an Kirk in the Pines, is also a board member of the Hot Springs Music Festival, HS/HSV Symphony Guild, and ALTTA. With a master’s in piano performanc­e from LSU and a career of piano teaching, Toney has achieved numerous career awards in recognitio­n of outstandin­g performanc­e in teaching. Besides playing piano, she may be found perusing the area for textiles and papers to recycle into little works of art under the logo Velma’s Girl.

Admission to the concert is free; goodwill donations will be accepted for the benefit of Kirk Mission Projects. A reception will follow the concert.
