Froholdt leads Arkansas’ All-SEC preseason picks
FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas senior offensive lineman Hjalte Froholdt was the top Razorback named Thursday to the 2018 Preseason Coaches All-Southeastern Conference Football Team announced by the league office in Birmingham, Ala.
Georgia saw a league-leading 12 players named to the first, second and third teams. Alabama was second with 10 representatives, as well as a conference-best five players named to the All-SEC First Team.
Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own players.
Froholdt, a former defensive lineman, was the only Arkansas player named to the Second Team. No Razorbacks were voted first-team All-SEC.
Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own players.
Former Arkansas coach Bret Bielema and his staff began recruiting Froholdt as a sophomore from Svendborg, Denmark, when he played in Ohio as a foreign exchange student. He later graduated from the IMG Academy in Florida and lettered for Arkansas as a defensive lineman as a freshman.
Froholdt moved to the offensive side of the ball during spring workouts in 2016. He has started the last 25 games for Arkansas at left guard, but has transitioned to center during the preseason after graduations and injuries depleted the line.
Named to the All-SEC Third Team were Razorbacks Brian Wallace, a senior offensive lineman from Florissant, Mo.; De’Jon “Scoota” Harris, a junior linebacker from Harvey, La.,; Santos Ramirez, a senior safety out of Evangel Christian in Shreveport, La.; and return specialist De’Vion Warren, a sophomore receiver from Monroe, La.
The 2018 SEC football season will begin on Thursday when Texas A&M hosts Northwestern State. Arkansas will begin its season on Sept. 1 at Donald W. Razorbacks Stadium against Football Championship Subdivision opponent Eastern Illinois.
