Drug raid results in 3 arrests

An early morning raid on Tuesday at a residence on Talisman Street by Hot Springs police resulted in the arrests of three suspects on multiple felony charges after drugs and several guns were allegedly found.

Derek Daniel Baker, 30, Jennifer Lee Ann McGuire, 31, and Kimberly Ann Brown, 43, who all list 401 Talisman St. as their address, were taken into custody at the residence shortly after 6 a.m. by detectives with the Hot Springs police Special Investigat­ions Narcotics Unit who were executing a search warrant.

Baker, McGuire and Brown were located inside the residence along with Brown’s 13-year-old child and detained.

Baker and McGuire were each charged with simultaneo­us possession of drugs and firearms, punishable by up to life in prison, possession of meth with purpose to deliver, punishable by up to 30 years, unauthoriz­ed use of another person’s property to facilitate a crime and possession of a controlled substance with purpose to deliver, punishable by up to

20 years, and first-degree endangerin­g the welfare of a minor and possession of drug parapherna­lia, punishable by up to six years.

McGuire, who is a convicted felon, was also charged with possession of a firearm by certain persons, also punishable by up to six years in prison. Brown was charged with felony counts of unauthoriz­ed use of another person’s property to facilitate a crime, endangerin­g the welfare of a minor and two counts each of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug parapherna­lia.

Baker and McGuire were each being held on zero bond while Brown remained in custody in lieu of $14,500 bond. All three were set to appear Wednesday in Garland County District Court.

According to the probable cause affidavit, during the course of the search of the residence, detectives located two loaded .25-caliber automatic pistols, a Ruger P35 pistol, .38-special revolver, a .380-caliber pistol and a loaded side-folding AK47 rifle along with multiple rounds and magazines of various caliber ammunition.

They also allegedly located various baggies with a total of 57.1 grams of meth, 11 alprazolam pills, a hydrocodon­e pill, a bottle of codeine cough syrup. 3.2 grams of marijuana, multiple smoking pipes, multiple sets of digital scales, two marijuana grinders, rolling papers, baggies, sorters and miscellane­ous paperwork in Baker’s name.

According to the Garland County tax assessor’s office, the property at 401 Talisman belongs to someone other than the three suspects and there is a Hot Springs School District bus stop only a few feet from the residence at the corner of Talisman and Hollywood Avenue.
