Hair scores 4 TD in early Jessievill­e win

PERRYVILLE — Kickoff for Friday’s 3A-4 conference opener between Jessievill­e and Perryville was moved up an hour, but the inclement weather in the area did little to slow down the Lions and their freshman quarterbac­k.

Carson Hair threw for two more touchdowns Friday and ran for another two scores to lead Jessievill­e (3-1, 1-0) to a 3416 win on the road against Perryville (1-3, 0-1). He was 7-for-12 passing for 186 yards and two touchdowns. The freshman did more damage than usual on the ground with 104 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries.

Hair is now 36-for-67 passing, 53.7 percent, for the season for 783 yards with nine touchdowns and only one intercepti­on through four games.

Sophomore Charlie Davis gave the Lions the early lead with an intercepti­on returned 2o yards for a touchdown midway through the first quarter. The Lions added to the lead three minutes later on a 35-yard touchdown play from Hair to sophomore receiver Landen Daley. A 2-point conversion gave the Lions a 14-0 lead to start the second quarter.

Jessievill­e extended its lead midway through the second quarter on a 55-yard score from Hair to senior Cage Glisson. The Lions led, 20-0, at halftime.

Hair added a rushing score midway through the third quarter on a four-yard run. The Lions led, 26-6, before the Mustangs answered with their first score on the next drive.

The lead was 26-8 to start the fourth quarter, but Hair added his second rushing toauchdown early in the finale frame. His six-yard score and a 2-point conversion put Jessievill­e ahead, 34-8.

Perryville later recovered a fumble by Jessievill­e on the Lions’ 28-yard line. The Mustangs were able to find the end zone and score another 2-point conversion to set the final.

Glisson had three catches for 110 yards and a touchdown. He leads the Lions with 347 yards on 10 catches for an average of 34.7 yards per catch. He also leads the receivers with four touchdowns.

Davis caught three passes for 36 yards. He now has a team-high 12 receptions for 175 yards.

Senior linebacker Luke Wilson led the Lions with 13 total tackles, including eight solo stops. Junior tiger linebacker B.J. Holloway made 12 stops and six solo tackles. Holloway also caught an intercepti­on.

Senior Jeffrey Scott, junior Aaron Murders and junior Austin Carl each made seven tackles, while Scott and junior Dexton Hilton each had a sack. Junior Joey Benson recovered a fumble on defense.

Jessievill­e will be back at home on Friday to host Baptist Prep (1-2-1, 0-1). The Eagles lost their conference opener, 41-19, on Friday in their homecoming game against Atkins (4-0, 1-0).
