MPGS to get Hot Springs history lesson
The Melting Pot genealogical Society will meet at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at its library at 649-B Ouachita Ave. The program will be “A Brief History of Hot Springs National Park.”
Tom Hill will discuss the founding and development of the park from
1832 to today using images from the park archives.
Hill is the curator at Hot Springs National Park, responsible for the care and preservation of the park’s museum collections and archives. He was born and raised in Hot Springs and graduated from Hot Springs High School. He holds an associates degree from Garland County Community College, bachelor’s in physics from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, bachelor’s in history from Weber State University in Utah, and Master of Science in Museum Studies from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. He served as curator at the Octave Chanute Aerospace Museum in Rantoul, Ill., and at Hill Aerospace Museum at Hill Air Force Base, Utah.
The Melting Pot Genealogical Society is collecting annual dues of $25, which includes monthly newsletters and its annual publication, The Kettle. The library and meetings are open to the public. The library has publications/CDs/microfilm and fiche and several public-use computers. Its hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday and Friday or by appointment, 624-0229.

U.S. Rep. Bruce Westerman will be among the Republican candidates to speak during the All-American Pancake Breakfast hosted by the Republican Party of Garland County from 8-11 a.m. Saturday in the Extension Homemakers Building at the Garland County Fairground, 4831 Malvern Road. Admission is $20 in advance, $25 at the door.
Participants have an opportunity to bid on an Arkansas Senate 90th General Assembly Limited Edition coin donated by Sen. Alan Clark and win door prizes.
