Hot Springs Tech Learning Center announces October schedule

The October schedule for classes presented by Hot Springs Tech Learning Center have been confirmed. They include:

Windows 10 Basics from 1-3 p.m. Oct. 1, 8, 15 and 22. A home computer is not required to enroll in this course, however, having a computer is recommende­d, as it will enhance one’s ability to practice the skills learned in the classroom. Topics to be covered include: parts of the computer, review of mouse usage, turn computer on/off, taskbar, start menu, desktop icons. WordPad will be used to give the student basics of word processing. Introducti­on to internet and email will be included.

Windows 10 Level 1 will be held from 1-3 p.m. Oct. 4, 11, 18 and 25. This course is a pre-requisite to all advanced Windows courses offered. Students should have a proficienc­y of the keyboard, mouse skills and reasonable computer knowledge. Students will learn how to navigate through Windows 10, learn use of tiles, change basic settings, use File Explorer to organize files and folders; use flash drives. The new Microsoft Edge browser will be covered. Email choices available in Windows 10 will be discussed. Pre-requisite: Windows 10 Basics.

Cell phone apps will be discussed from 2-4 p.m. Oct. 9. This workshop will discuss favorite cell phone apps. Demonstrat­ions will be provided of favorite apps. How to download apps to a cell phone will also be included.

Android Phone will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 10. This seminar will cover how to use features on Android phones. Features will include accessing the internet and email, installing apps, using the camera, sending pictures from the camera, using calendar, alarm clock, how to connect to WiFi networks. Students should bring their own Android phone.

One-on-one help sessions will be held from 1-3 p.m. Oct. 10. These will help on a topic that no workshop/class offers, and help one to register on a topic of their choice. Students will be matched with a staff member who can provide the with one-on-one help. Bring questions to these sessions.

Traveling With Google Maps and Apple Car-Play will be offered from 2-4 p.m. Oct. 16. This workshop is primarily working with the iPhone’s Google Maps and Apple’s Car-Play. Staff will suggest a few apps that could enhance one’s Car-Play or iPhone experience. Apple Car-Play does not have to be on one’s vehicle to use Google Maps on their phone. Similar features are available with Android Auto, so students with Android phones could benefit from this workshop.

File Management will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 17. This workshop introduces basic ways to set up, organize and manage files on the computer. It is appropriat­e for users of all Windows systems. This is a hands-on workshop and students will use the Windows 10 operating system.

An iPhone workshop will be offered from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 25. It will cover how to use features on the iPhone, including accessing the internet and email, installing apps, using the camera, sending pictures from the camera, using calendar, alarm clock, how to connect to WiFi networks. Students should bring their own iPhone.
