Rams sweep Wildcats

Lakeside took a straight-set victory on Thursday in a 5A-South conference match against El Dorado.

The Rams (11-2, 7-1) cruised to the three-set victory, 25-2, 25-2, 25-8. The Wildcats dropped to 2-9 overall and 1-7 in conference play.

Olivia Lawrence led Lakeside with 25 assists, along with five aces and four kills. Claire Monte hit for 10 kills and Meghan Fuller Freeman hit nine.

Molly Stineman added five digs and four aces. Adachi Igbokidi and Katie Ballard added four and three kills, respective­ly.

Lakeside is scheduled to face Lake Hamilton (11-3, 6-2) on the road on Tuesday before hosting 5A-South leader Benton (14-3, 8-0) on Thursday.

“We have big matches next week and we needed to play as a team this week,” said Lakeside head coach Rhonda Thigpen. “I am proud of their teamwork.”

match in straight sets. They won, 25-5,

25-7, on Thursday.

Ainsley Rottinghau­s had nine assists and three aces for the Rams. Ava Monte finished with eight aces and nine kills. Shelby Kathcart had four assisted blocks.

The seventh-grade team was victorious, 25-4, 25-18, in the first match on Thursday. The Rams won in two sets,

25-4, 25-18.

Lakeside prevails against LR Christian at Burns Park

NORTH LITTLE ROCK — Lakeside rolled in girls’ matches Thursday, while the boys’ team finished ahead of Little Rock Christian in a tennis matchup at Burns Park.

Sophomore Haley Fauber and senior Caroline Johnson each took wins of 6-0, 6-0 in their singles matches. The teams of senior Olivia Dolan with junior M.C. Cowen and junior Isabella Calhoun with classmate Marion Nutt each won in doubles, 6-1, 6-0.

Lakeside won the remaining singles matches, 8-1, 8-2 and 8-3 by junior Sydney Blount, senior Camryn Gulledge and sophomore Taylor Ramirez, respective­ly. Sophomore Haley Strozyk and freshman Addyson Dowdy outlasted their doubles opponents, 8-6.

The Rams won two of the three boys’ singles matches and two of the three doubles matches. Senior Ian Hollis won his match, 6-0, 6-0, while junior Jason Long earned an 8-0 win.

Seniors Ethan Eastwood and Andrew Montgomery earned a 7-5, 6-2 win in No.

1 doubles. Junior Carsen Knighten and sophomore Brady Littler closed with an

8-5 win.

Lakeside is scheduled to host Benton on Monday.

OBU splits GAC matches

Ouachita Baptist’s women’s soccer team earned a 2-0 win against Southern Nazarene on the road on Thursday before dropping a 2-1 decision at Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday.

Senior Tori Stratton took a pass from fellow senior Bryston Thomas on Thursday to score the opening goal of the game in the 31st minute. Kyle Sharp found the back of the net in the 79th minute on an assist from Jaymee Dotson.

Oklahoma Baptist (4-4, 2-0 Great American Conference) opened Saturday’s match with four shots in the first

15 minutes. Dotson dribbled up the field late in the half to hit a cross to Natalia Arteaga for a goal and a 1-0 advantage at the break.

The Bison outshot the Tigers (3-4,

1-1), 15-3 in the second half. Oklahoma Baptist found the net in the 51st and 59th minutes.

Erin Webster finished the match with seven saves, while Ashlyn Heckman led the attack with four shots on goal.

Ouachita is scheduled to finally play its first home match of the season on Thursday against Southweste­rn Oklahoma State (4-2-1, 2-0). The Tigers are also scheduled for a homecoming match on Saturday against Northweste­rn Oklahoma State (1-4-1, 1-1).

Tigers take 3rd at Division II Showcase

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Ouachita Baptist’s cross country team placed third overall Saturday in the Trevecca Division II Showcase at Percy Warner Park in Nashville, Tenn., on Saturday morning.

The finishing total team time for the Tigers was 1:53:19 in the five-kilometer race.

Freshman Kyndal Moyer was once again the first Tiger to cross the finish line with a time of 21:22 and took the 13th overall individual finish.

Sophomore Jorie Beaumont finished three spots behind Moyer with a time of 21:57. Sophomore Elizabeth Costner finished 22nd overall with a time of 22:45.

Other runners for Ouachita were Taryn Bewley, 24th, 23:16; Kallie Polk,

27th, 23:56; Grace Loftin, 30th, 24:17; and Eden Putterill, 32nd, 26:13.

Union University took first place with

16 points, followed by Auburn-Montgomery in second at 57. Ouachita tied with the hosted Trevecca team with 88 points.

Ouachita’s next meet will be the Little Rock Invitation­al on Oct. 13.
