Oaklawn runners to feature on Breeders’ Cup cards

A number of Oaklawn Park-raced horses will compete today and Saturday in the 35th annual Breeders’ Cup at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky.

Senior Investment, an allowance winner in 2017 at Oaklawn, is entered in the

$200,000 Marathon Stakes today. Probable post time for the 1 3/4-mile Marathon, which goes as race 10, is 5:43 p.m.

Today’s five Breeders’ Cup races are for

2-year-olds, leaving as many as 14 Oaklawn runners, including Hronis Racing’s Accelerate, the country’s top-ranked horse, to run on Saturday.

On the strength of a 5-1-0 mark this year, Accelerate has topped the National Thoroughbr­ed Racing Associatio­n Top Thoroughbr­ed Poll for 11 consecutiv­e weeks and is the 5-2 program favorite for the Grade

1 $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic. A four-time Grade 1 this year for trainer John Sadler, Accelerate’s only loss came on April 14 in the Grade 2 $750,000 Oaklawn Handicap at Oaklawn. He was beaten a neck by City of Light.

In the 1 1/4-mile Classic, Accelerate is scheduled to break from post 14 – the extreme outside – under Joel Rosario and carry equal top weight of 126 pounds. Oaklawn-raced Collected (30-1) is an also-eligible for the Classic, which goes as race 11 and has a probable post time of 4:44 p.m.

City of Light drew the rail for the Grade

1 $1 million Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile. City of Light (5-2) is scheduled to carry equal top weight of 126 pounds, including Hall of Fame jockey Javier Castellano. Oaklawn-raced Seven Trumpets (15-1) and Bravazo (20-1) are also entered in the Dirt Mile.

Probable post time for the Dirt Mile, which goes as race 5, is 12:16 p.m.

Whitmore, Oaklawn’s top older sprinter the last two years after sweeping the

$125,000 Hot Springs Stakes and Grade 3

$400,000 Count Fleet Sprint Handicap, is entered in the Grade 1 $2 million Breeders’ Cup Sprint for co-owner/trainer Ron Moquett, of Hot Springs.

Whitmore (6-1) is scheduled to break from the rail under six-time Oaklawn riding champion Ricardo Santana Jr. and carry equal top weight of 126 pounds. Whitmore finished eighth in last year’s Sprint.

Also entered in the Sprint is multiple Oaklawn allowance winner Warrior’s Club

(15-1). Probable post time for the 6-furlong Sprint, which goes as race 7, is 1:46 p.m

Two Oaklawn stakes winners – Golden Mischief and Mia Mischief – are entered in the Grade 1 $1 million Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint. Golden Mischief won the

$150,000 Purple Martin Stakes for 3-year-old fillies in 2017 via disqualifi­cation. Mia Mischief won this year’s Purple Martin.

Golden Mischief (10-1 on the morning line) is scheduled to break from post 5 under Florent Geroux and carry equal top weight of 124 pounds. Golden Mischief was also an April 4 allowance winner in Hot Springs for Brad Cox and was trained by Hall of Famer and Steve Asmussen in 2017.

Asmussen will send out Mia Mischief in the 7-furlong Filly & Mare Sprint. Mia Mischief (15-1) is scheduled to break from post 8 under Ricardo Santana Jr. and carry

122 pounds. Finley’sluckychar­m, an allowance winner in 2016 at Oaklawn, is also entered in the Filly & Mare Sprint. Finley’sluckychar­m (101) is scheduled to break from post 11 under Brian Hernandez Jr. and carry 124 pounds.

Probable post time for the Filly & Mare Sprint, which goes as race 3, is 11 a.m.

Chanteline, winner of the $125,000 Spring Fever Stakes March 3 at Oaklawn, is entered in the Grade 1 $1 million Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint for Asmussen and Santana. Chanteline (15-1) is scheduled to break from post 8 and carry 123 pounds. Probable post time for the Turf Sprint, which goes as race

4, is 11:38 a.m.

Other Oaklawn-raced horses scheduled to run in the Breeders’ Cup are Blue Prize (6-1) and Wonder Gadot (15-1) in the Grade 1 $2 million Distaff and Fuhriously Kissed (30-1) in the Grade 1 $2 million Filly & Mare Turf.

Probable post time for the 1 3/8-mile Filly & Mare Turf, which goes as race 6, is

1:04 p.m. Probable post time for the Distaff, which goes as race 9, is 3:16 p.m.

Oaklawn-raced Cowboy Creed is entered in the $200,000 Cherokee Run Stakes Saturday. Probable post time for the 7-furlong Cherokee Run, which goes as race 2, is 10:15 a.m.

Oaklawn-raced Moonlit Garden and Bixby Lou are entered in the Grade 2 $200,000 Chilukki Stakes Saturday. Probable post time for the 1-mile Chilukki, which goes as race

12, is 5:22 p.m.

Moonlit Garden is also entered in the Grade 3 $150,000 Turnback the Alarm Handicap Saturday at Aqueduct Racetrack in New York. Probable post time for the 1 1/8-mile Turnback the Alarm, which goes as race 9, is 3:44 p.m.

Multiple Oaklawn stakes winner Swing and Sway and Oaklawn-raced Astrollint­hepark and Vertical Oak are entered in the

$100,000 Dream Supreme Stakes Sunday at Churchill Downs. Probable post time for the 6-furlong Dream Supreme, which goes as race 9, is 4:06 p.m.

Oaklawn will offer the full simulcast of the Breeders’ Cup from Churchill Downs today and Saturday and will open at a special time of 9 a.m. Saturday for both racing and gaming.
