Lakeside takes road wins in junior high action

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

Lakeside’s junior boys basketball team got its season started off on the right foot with a pair of road wins over Jessieville and Central Arkansas Christian Monday and Tuesday night. The junior girls also picked up a pair of wins.

The junior Rams traveled to Jessieville Monday, coming away with a

50-35 win over the junior Lions.

Lakeside took a 17-11 lead in the first quarter before stretching to a 31-17 buffer at the break. The junior Rams added 11 in the third while giving up

12 for a 42-29 lead going into the final period.

Jamison Craig led the junior Rams with 17 points and Wylyn Harris added 12.

“Taevon Johnson really sets the tone for the whole team,” said head coach Cody Lambert. “His energy is contagious. We jumped out to a quick lead, but teamwise, lacked the stamina to ever control the game. Credit Jessieville and coach Jared White on making great adjustments to get his playmakers the ball. Anytime we play Jessieville, we know you are going

to get their best effort and they will be well coached.”

The junior Rams then cruised to a 50-35 win over CAC Tuesday night with Harris putting up 14 and Jordan Mills adding 10.

After leading much of the game by 10–15 points, Lakeside’s lead was cut to eight going into the final period. Steven Cummins took a charge and made a basket on the team’s next possession to put the momentum back in the junior Rams’ favor.

CAC then put double pressure on Harris, leaving Mills open to drain a 3-pointer to give Lakeside control for the remainder of the game.

Lakeside’s eighth grade boys beat CAC, 35-8.

Mady Davenport put up 16 points for the junior Lady Rams Monday night as Lakeside rolled to a 39-21 win over Jessieville.

Both teams struggled to score early with Lakeside holding a 4-3 lead at the end of the first period, but Jessieville took a 12-10 edge into the break. The junior Lady Lions held Lakeside to just two points to take a 19-12 lead going into the final period as the junior Lady Rams poured on 17 while allowing two to take the win.

Ronni Formby and Cat Morcan each put up six for Lakeside, Madeline Goodson added five and Kennedy Brock and Sarah Porter rounded out the scoring with three each.

Davenport led Lakeside again in Tuesday’s 36-25 win at CAC.

Lakeside managed to take a 10-4 lead into the break before adding 12 in the third frame while allowing 10 for a 32-14 lead. CAC added 11 in the final period, but the junior Lady Rams held on for the win.

Davenport led the team with 13 points, Morcan and Brock had six each and Porter added five.

Lakeside will be at home tonight as it hosts Centerpoint at the Lakeside Athletic Complex.
