Hunter named national Player of the Week

LEVELLAND, Texas — Scoring 53 points in three wins in three days a week ago earned Hot Springs alum Keke Hunter national Player of the Week honors.

Hunter graduated from Hot Springs in 2017, started in 30 games last season for Tyler Junior

College in Texas and played in all 31 games for the Lady Apaches. She is now with South Plains

College in Texas.

The Lady Texans play in Division I of the National Junior College Athletic Associatio­n.

They began their season 3-0 with victories over Tohono O’odham Community College (0-3), Colorado Northweste­rn Junior College (0-3) and

Mesa Community College (0-3) in consecutiv­e days in the Odessa College Classic in Texas.

Hunter scored 24 points with 17 rebounds and four blocks in an 82-23 win over Colorado Northweste­rn. She began the tournament with 16 points, 16 rebounds and two blocks against Tohono O’odham.

The Texans’ final match of the tournament saw Hunter score 13 points and grab 11 rebounds in a 56-38 win over Mesa. She averaged 17.7 points, 14.7 rebounds, 2.3 blocks, 59.5 percent shooting and 24 minutes per game to be named the NJCAA’s Division I Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.

Hunter was third in scoring at Tyler with 13 points per game. South Plains is scheduled to meet Seward County Community

College (2-0) today at 6 p.m. and Dodge City Community College (1-1) Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Pepsi Classic tournament at Seward County in Liberal, Kansas.
