Springs Music Club to present patriotic music program on Sunday
The Hot Springs Music Club will present a program of American patriotic music at 3 p.m. Sunday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3819 Central Ave.
The Spa City Brass, comprised of Bill Crook, Rick Perryman, Lloyd Kuhn, David Pierce and Bruce Harvey, will play a selection of American music honoring the country and the veterans who have fought to preserve democracy, a news release said.
Robin Williams, Kathie White and Mary Taylor will sing “In Flanders Fields” in honor of the 100-year anniversary of the end of World War I. The trio will be accompanied by a string quartet of James Smith, Charlotte Brown, Meredith Nesbitt and Alex Nesbitt. The history of the poem written during the First World War will be given by Mary Ellen White. The trio will also perform “I Hear America Singing,” accompanied by Gay Goslin Smith.
Nicholas Damiani, assistant organist for Westminster Presbyterian, will present “Fanfare on America the Beautiful” by Matthew H. Corl. Damiani moved to Hot Springs from Philadelphia in December 2016. He is a graduate of the University of the Arts in organ performance and music education from Cabrini College, Radnor, Penn. He taught elementary classroom music for 30 years in Delaware County, Penn. He is a lifelong opera fan and he was a recipient of a yearlong grant from the Metropolitan Opera to teach opera to fourth-graders. As a result of his work, the children wrote, composed, produced, and directed a performance of an original opera at the end of the year. Before locating to Hot Springs, Nicholas served for 40 years in Lutheran churches as organist/music director. He is particularly devoted to the music of J.S. Bach, a news release said.
Damiani will also accompany Jackie Flowers, founder of the Hot Springs Flute Ensemble, on piccolo in performing “Scars and Scrapes Forever” by Ken Laufer. Flowers and Sara Ferril will perform a flute duet entitled “American Patrol.”
The public, especially veterans and their families, are welcome to attend.
