Red Devils advance to 2nd round

MOUNTAIN PINE — Mountain Pine defeated Hackett Friday night, 35-26. to advance to the second round of the Class 2A playoffs for a second postseason home game next week.

The Red Devils (8-3) were the No.

2 seed from the 2A-5 conference. They advance to face Des Arc (8-3) on Friday at Stanley May Field. The Eagles came from behind Friday to defeat Magnet Cove (5-6), 35-31.

Elijah Browning later scored on a

29-yard touchdown run with 2:34 on the clock in the first. Sales was again successful on the kick.

Mountain Pine’s Dylan Munson caught a 39-yard touchdown pass from Smith with 10:03 remaining before the break to mark the score, 21-6.

Browning again found the end zone and rushed for four yards for the score with 8:26 left on the clock in the second quarter.

Brady Hester rushed for one-yard touchdown with 11:28 in second quarter to put the Hornets (4-6) on the board, 286. Hackett sophomore Fischer Shipman rushed for a 26-yard touchdown with 6:53 left in second to up the Hornets‘, 28-12.

Cooper Shipman then ran for two yards for the score with 2:30 left. Hackett converted the two-point play to bring the score, 28-20.

Brady Hester found Anthony Collins on a 10-yard pass for a touchdown with

4:34 left in the third to breach the eight point deficit, 28-26.

Browning found the end zone on a 70yard rushing touchdown with 10 minutes remaining in the game to secure the Red Devils’ final score.
